Brand Strategy, Narrative Development & Reputation Management

Built on the Narrative Resilience framework. For companies whose story has to hold up under pressure.

A brand strategy is no longer a positioning exercise. It is the operating logic that connects what a company decides, what its people do, and what its stakeholders experience. We First builds brand strategy, corporate narrative, and reputation management for companies whose story will be tested by markets, media, and their own growth.

Why this matters now

A great brand strategy used to be an internal artefact. Today, it is a public commitment.

Stakeholders read every page. Employees compare what is written to what is lived. Investors compare what is said to what is filed. AI systems summarise your story to people who will never visit your website. Under that level of exposure, a brand strategy that cannot survive scrutiny is not a strategy. It is a liability.

The work, then, is no longer to write a story. The work is to build a narrative that holds up under pressure across audiences, across cycles, across the gap between intent and execution.

We call that property narrative resilience.

What we deliver

Five connected engagements, sequenced according to where you are in the narrative arc.

1

Brand & Narrative Stress Test

A diagnostic that pressure-tests your existing narrative against three forces: external scrutiny, internal alignment, and the gap between brand promise and operational reality.

We audit messaging, public commitments, employee perception, customer experience, and the questions you would not want to be asked in a hostile interview. The output is a clear assessment of where your narrative is strong, where it is fragile, and where it is exposed.

Best for:

Pre-IPO readiness, post-crisis recovery, ESG reporting cycles, leadership transitions.

2

Business Strategy Development

Strategy work for leadership teams who need to clarify what the business is actually doing before clarifying what the business is saying.

This is upstream of the brand. We help leadership teams define the strategic frame, including the categories they will play in, the customer they will commit to, and the trade-offs they will live with, so that everything downstream has something coherent to stand on.

Best for:

Inflection moments, category redefinition, M&A integration.

3

Corporate Narrative & Communications Strategy

A messaging architecture for the people who have to tell the story.

We build narrative frameworks for executives, communications teams, sales leaders, and investor relations, including the corporate story, the messaging hierarchy, the proof points, and the communications cadence. The deliverable is a narrative that scales without diluting.

Best for:

Companies whose internal teams are telling five different versions of the same story.

4

Reputation & Narrative Management Retainer

Ongoing partnership for companies whose reputation is itself a strategic asset.

We work alongside CEOs, communications leaders, and boards to manage narrative continuity through the year: quarterly reviews, milestone communications, crisis preparation, and the slow, compounding work of making a brand harder to misread.

Best for:

Public companies, founder-led brands at scale, regulated sectors.

5

Brand Strategy & Positioning

The full brand strategy engagement: positioning, architecture, differentiation, purpose, and the language a company will use to describe itself for the next phase.

We build brand strategy that connects upward to business strategy and downward to culture and customer experience. We do not produce decks that live in a folder. We produce a strategic spine that the company can actually run on.

Best for:

Rebrands, new categories, mission-driven companies entering institutional markets.

How we work

We do not start with brand. We start with what is true.

The Narrative Resilience framework is built around a single discipline: document a truth, do not sell a story. Every brand we have built that has lasted has started with what was real about the company, including its origin, its trade-offs, and its commitments, and worked outward from there.

That sequence matters. A narrative built on truth gets stronger under scrutiny. A narrative built on aspiration gets weaker.

Our engagements are structured to surface the truth first, then build the strategy on top of it.

Who this is for

1

CEOs and founders of mission-driven companies entering scrutinised markets

2

Boards and investor relations leaders preparing for IPO, fundraising, or M&A

3

CMOs and CCOs managing narrative across multiple stakeholder groups

4

Communications teams at companies whose reputation is materially exposed

5

Sustainability and impact leaders translating commitments into credible communications

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between brand strategy and corporate narrative?

Brand strategy defines what a company stands for and how it competes. Corporate narrative defines how that strategy is told — across audiences, channels, and stakeholders. Both are required. A company with a strategy but no narrative is unclear externally. A company with a narrative but no strategy is unprotected internally.

How is We First different from a typical brand strategy agency?

Most brand strategy agencies optimise for differentiation. We optimise for resilience. The difference matters when a brand is exposed to scrutiny, regulation, or stakeholder pressure. Our methodology — Narrative Resilience — is designed for companies whose story has to hold up under conditions that ordinary positioning frameworks were not built for.

What does a brand strategy engagement cost, and how long does it take?

Engagement scope varies meaningfully — a narrative stress test runs four to eight weeks; a full brand strategy and narrative architecture runs three to six months; an ongoing reputation retainer is structured annually. We do not publish standard pricing because we do not run standard engagements. Every scope is built for the situation.

Do you work with public companies?

Yes. A meaningful portion of our work is with public companies, pre-IPO companies, and family-held enterprises with public scrutiny. Reputation management at that level requires legal coordination, investor sensitivity, and cadence discipline. Our retainer model is built for that environment.

Can you help during a crisis?

Crisis communications is a specialist field, and we work alongside crisis specialists when needed. Our role is upstream and downstream of the crisis itself — preparing the narrative before it is tested, and rebuilding the narrative after the immediate response has been delivered. Reputation recovery is patient work.

What is the Narrative Resilience framework?

Narrative Resilience is We First’s proprietary methodology for building brand and corporate narratives that hold up under scrutiny. It assesses narratives across three dimensions: truth (does the story match the reality), coherence (does it hold across audiences), and durability (does it survive over time). It is the spine of our brand strategy work.

If your story has to hold up under pressure, it is worth knowing where it is fragile before someone else finds out.
