We First 5: What You Need to Know This Friday
With Sony’s growing commitment to leadership in environmental sustainability, we are thrilled to welcome John Rego, Director of Environmental Sustainability for Sony Pictures Entertainment, as a speaker at this year’s We First Brand Leadership Summit on October 6-7th at the W Hollywood Hotel in Los Angeles. John’s experience ranges from strategic planning for the energy sector to analyzing federal air-emissions policy in Washington D.C. to advising a range of corporations on environmental responsibility. His insights and experience across public and private sectors are a tremendous addition to this year’s Summit line-up.
Sony Pictures Entertainment has set sustainability targets including reducing its ecological footprint through sustainable policies that combat climate change, preserve natural resources, and protect the health and safety of communities through initiatives that span facilities and operations, production, consumer products, employees and community outreach. In addition to partnering with numerous non-profits and organizations such as Tree People and Habitat for Humanity that are dedicated to environmental causes, Sony Pictures Entertainment also strives to reach “zero waste” by developing creative waste minimization programs. From an internal perspective, Sony launched its employee-based Greener World Group bringing to life its sustainability mission through volunteerism, annual awareness events, and gleaning green ideas from employees. The Group is composed of an eleven person board and almost 650 members committed to promoting all things sustainability.
John joined Sony after eight years in energy and environmental consulting. He has consulted on sustainability issues for companies in the entertainment, consumer products, technology, energy, electronics and education sectors including Focus Features, Absolut Spirits Company, eBay and Sharp. John focuses on driving value for the company through sustainable practices, primarily by integrating environmental stewardship into corporate culture, product marketing, and all aspects of operations.
