INTERVIEW: Mika and Emi Onishi, Co-Founders of UPTOGOOD
Now in its fourth year, the We First Brand Leadership Summit has become synonymous with gathering brands that are leaders in their category through social and business impact. Our team is thrilled to announce Michael Kobori, VP Sustainability at Levi Strauss & Co., as a speaker during the Summit on October 6-7 at the W Hollywood in Los Angeles.
Levi Strauss & Co. has a longstanding reputation as a sustainability powerhouse in their industry, bringing an innovative lens to environmental and social impact throughout its supply chain, materials and right through to activating its consumer base. The brand’s sustainability initiatives range from going beyond labor compliance standards by publicly disclosing its manufacturing supplier locations, to leading the industry in banning sandblasting and partnering with NGOs and key suppliers to support programs that improve workers’ lives. Through its sustainability work, Levi Strauss & Co. was recently named one of the most innovative companies in the world by FastCompany magazine, which also named Michael Kobori one of its 1000 Most Creative People in Business.
Michael has led sustainability at Levi Strauss & Co. since 2001. Under his tenure, the company has been a pioneer, reducing the environmental impact of its products through its Levi’s® Waste<Less™ and Water<Less™ collections, Dockers’® WellThread collection, Care for Our Planet program, and leadership on the Better Cotton Initiative.
The focus of this year’s Summit – “How brands lead conversations that shape culture and grow business” – will be brought to life as a 2-day, hands-on training event where every attendee works through a Social Branding Blueprint specific to their brand and business. Presenting during Module 2 of the Summit, Michael will shed light on defining your brand purpose in ways that are meaningful and relevant to employees and customers.
